About

Personal concerns, at one time or another, are a normal part of life. It is often difficult to admit that you do not have all the answers and that you need help. At times like these, professional guidance can offer new insights, or provide information to help with decisions, respond to issues and resolve problems.

The Judges Counselling Program

The Judges Counselling Program provides federally and provincially appointed active and retired Judges, Justices of the Peace, Masters, Associate Judges, Prothonotaries and their families, including spouses and eligible children*, with access to short-term confidential counselling and Life Balance solutions. The JCP is supported by the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada and the Offices of the Chief Judges of the Provincial Courts. The JCP is confidential, no one will know that you have used the JCP unless you decide to tell someone.

*Children are defined as: Under 21 years of age, or under 25 years of age and attending accredited school, college or university on a full time basis, or 20 or 24 years of age who was a dependant child as defined above when they became incapable of engaging in self-sustaining employment by reason of mental or physical impairment, and is primarily dependent upon the member for support and maintenance.

The counselling services are provided by Homewood Health and are initially provided at no cost to members. Homewood Health is a Canadian company and one of Canada’s largest Employee and Family Assistance Plan providers.  They work with over 4500 counsellors and serve hundreds of thousands of clients nationwide.  Counsellors have a minimum of a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counselling or education, backed by 15 years of clinical experience.  Counselling modalities include in-person, telephonic, e-counselling and video counselling.

You are eligible for up to 20 sessions of Enhanced Mental Health Care, per issue, with Homewood Health.  If longer term or specialized counselling is required, your counsellor can assist you with a referral.  After that referral, you would be responsible for any charges that your benefit plan or provincial health insurance does not cover.
